Semi-shameless self plug time. My classmate and I have made a obscenely ridiculous (and quite probably copyright infringing) mini-game for an EA sponsored competition called 'Games4Girls'.
They should be about finished judging this weekend at their Retreat, so I feel a little less guilty posting about it. Not that we're destined to win, the game was supposed to be made for High School aged Girls to enjoy playing. Ours potentially insults them.
In our game, you play as Justin Bieber fending off rabid fangirls who just want a lock of your famous hair (and a few other things, but I'll leave those to you.) If you can keep the girls at bay for 60 seconds, you may advance to the Boss level, where the Queen of Bielibers awaits you with open arms and a super sonic voice.
To some, this may seem as an odd concept for a game intended for teenage girls. Rightly so. When researching, we found most games online marketed for girls fit into five categories; cooking, child rearing, make up, dress up, and kissing/dating games. Instantly, Ellen and I were offended, perplexed, and frustrated. We decided to make a top down shooter with a pop culture twist for the poor souls akin to our gaming drive in high school.
This was my first real attempt at a game using the Gamemaker programme, which isn't complicated for the basics, but once you get into the more complex aspects it makes you want to punt your monitor out a fifth floor window. Along with that, I have absolutely no artistic talent to speak of, so our graphics are on the absolute rubbish side. The game itself is wicked fun though, and surprisingly difficult.
All that being said, I'd like to share my offbeat game with all of you. Here's a link to the zip file. When playing, make sure to keep the icon in the same folder as the videos, the links for the splash screens will break if you move it around too much. If you have any complications, feel free to leave a comment and I'll happily troubleshoot for you.
I had a blast creating this game with Ellen, and I hope you guys enjoy playing it!
Oh, and make sure to post your high score in the comments!
