Another round of top publishers whirly-gigs and whatchamacallits for us all to salivate over in anticipation.
Title: Child of Eden
Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Q Entertainment
Genre: Shooter, Music
Drop Date: June 14th, 2011
Rating: (Pending, but probably) Everyone 10+
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3 (Kinect and regular controllers)
The Good: It looks freakin' cool. Oh, and as the unofficial successor to Rez, it's an awesome "create music as you play" based shooter.
The Bad: You look like a bit of an idiot while playing.
The Questionable: It still has the weird external vibration ability.
There isn't much to say. Child of Eden looks like fun, but it seems like it may be an innovative game that collects dust on a shelf after a play or two. But that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to it.
Title: Call of Juarez: The Cartel
Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Techland
Genre: First Person Shooter, Action
Drop Date: Summer 2011
Rating: (Pending, but probably) Mature
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3
The Good: You can finally be that Mexican druglord you've always wanted to be, without the actual threats on your life.
The Bad: There's probably a reason why Ubisoft has barely pushed this game. It was hidden away on the back of the Ubisoft booth with no demos displayed. They also claim part of the replay value comes from being able to play the storyline with each of the three main characters.
The Questionable: Instead of the previous two games, the game is now set in a more modern version of the 'Wild West'. The states are being overrun with 'gangsters'. Regular Police officers are unable to quell the baddies, they enlist some 'bad cops' to give it a go.
Title: F.E.A.R. 3 (F3AR)
Publisher: Warner Bros Interactive
Developer: Day 1 Studios
Genre: First Person Shooter, Horror
Drop Date: May 16th, 2011
Rating: Mature
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3, PC
The Good: The story sounds epic. Betrayal, paranormal abilities, and scary crap around every corner.
The Bad: Release date has been pushed multiple times, which isn't necessarily bad, but means they've been having some issues. The name is cheesy as hell (but garners some hilarious Google image search results).
The Questionable: New co-op play. The demo of it was pretty boring.
Title: Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Publisher: Warner Bros Interactive
Developer: Snowblind Studios
Genre: RPG, Fantasy
Drop Date: Sometime in 2011
Rating: (probably) Mature
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3, PC
The Good: You and three of your best warmongering friends get to shoot the heads off Orcs and pillage chests for treasure. You can actually play this one with your friends.
The Bad: LotR games have a reputation for not living up to their potential.
The Questionable: It's another Fantasy RPG you have to pick from. Often times, they try to focus on sticking to actual LotR lore which can lead to repetitive and stale story lines.
Title: Mortal Kombat (2011)
Publisher: Warner Bros Interactive
Developer: NetherRealm Studios
Genre: Fighting
Drop Date: April 19th, 2011
Rating: Mature
System(s): Xbox 360, PS3
The Good: A Mortal Kombat game that returns to more of the original style we all love and have missed. New awesome 'specials' that feature x-ray organ annihilation and skull destruction. So far, it looks like the stupid button mashing that has nothing to do with actually fighting from vs DC has been cut from the equation.
The Bad: The graphics are nice, but I personally liked the total 2D look more than the new 2D-on-3D. It's also difficult to dash and move quickly. The demo only has one fatality (not including stage fatalities) per character, which is a huge letdown and hopefully they'll add more.
The Questionable: I think they're copying the specials from Street Fighter too much. It isn't something that should be in an MK game in my eyes. My friends who have also played the demo like the addition, though.
